Deplorable
A reflective day on the past.
A. New South Wales police have busted a 4 men alleged sex crimes ring that uses Satanic and Occult themes. What these 4 men have done is completely deplorable. They need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Having been in the Temple of Set (1996-98 and 2011-2025) and having been around both Satanic and Occult milieux as the former Disinformation website’s editor and writer, this is a return to the Satanic Panic deviance / moral panic of the 1980s and the early 1990s (in the United Kingdom, and in the United States in the McMartin, Presidio, and the West Memphis Three cases). It’s very disturbing to read - and as distinct from antinomian yet lawful new religious practices - it must not be tolerated.
B. The other sentiment indicator of the Satanic Panic’s revival is the upcoming film Rotterham. The trailer (below) focuses on a QAnon-like hero who battles the Deep State, the police, the media, and grooming gangs. Rotterham (and other cases) has been a theme in reactionary / far right media for the past 3-5 or so years - as a major grievance against the incumbent administrative and law enforcement functions.
C. Another trend here is the weaponisation of deepfake pornography in attempts to end political and other careers. Nina Schick’s Deepfakes: The Coming Infocalypse (New York: Hachette, 2020) goes into further detail, and there is subsequent literature on it.
D. Nation-states are selling their passports - global mobility (and digital nomads) are now a lot easier to implement (along with offshore finance / global banking).
E. New York City is battling for casino dollars.
F. Today’s MIT OCW free course is on social psychology from the late MIT Emeritus Professor Stephan Chorover.
G. Some life advice from author Robert Greene - who has built a sequence of books that repackage classical wisdom for contemporary (business) readers.
H. Fund Manager Patrick Boyle on AI and the death of the career ladder.
